School Councils Celebrate Universal Children's Day

20th November 2017
This afternoon, children from all eight of the local schools which form part of the Thorpe St Andrew Educational Partnership met together to celebrate Universal Children's Day.  The day is celebrated as the day in 1989 that many governments across the world signed the Convention for the Rights of the Child.
Today, fifty children from across the partnership discussed article 31, (Leisure, play and culture):
Children have the right to relax and play, and to join in a wide range of cultural, artistic and other recreational activities.

They worked in cross school groups to share practice from their schools and then came together in their own schools to discuss one idea they would like to take back to share with their fellow councillors.  Ideas included:
yoga sessions, a film club and extra visitors representing the arts.
