Connecting children with authors brings books and reading to life. We already have a number of author visits planned for this year, thanks to our school Friends.
Dr Mandy Hartley
Mandy visited the school in September to talk about her career not just as an author but also as a scientist specialising in DNA. The whole school took part in science-based workshops.
Mandy has two books published so far, with a third due for publication later in the year. All of the books use DNA as a basis for solving crimes.
The first book is The DNA Detectives - To Catch A Thief and the second is The DNA Detectives - The Smuggler's Daughter. Signed copies of both books are available in the school library.
On 22nd November, year 5 and 6 had a visit from author Lavie Tidhar. Lavie has written a number of books for adults and has recently published his first children's novel, Candy.
Lavie spoke to the children about his travels which led to him becoming an author and also read an extract from Candy. He answered a number of questions form children and signed books.
Julia came into school to introduce her historical series of books - the Scar Gatherer series. She talked to the whole of key stage 2 about the books, taking them on a tour of history through the books. Julia then worked with year 6 on the important task of editing writing.
After school, Julia kindly signed copies of her books for children.
