Reading in Zebras

Our first Class Novel, chosen by the class, is Dave Pigeon by Swapna Haddow.
The author has even sent us a letter and free bookmarks. We are very much enjoying the read.
In Guided Reading we have been looking at extracts from Time Hunters-Stone Age Rampage by Chris Blake which links to our Stone Age Man Rocks Topic. We have been developing our skills of Asking Questions using this text.
Both books are available in the classroom for children to choose to read independently.
Last week we explored 'prediction' using the fantastic book The Wolves in the Walls by Neil Gaiman. This book is already circulating around the class as pupils rediscover it for themselves.
This week we are developing our skills of 'inference' using an intriguing  short film called Adrift.
This week we have been developing our skills of clarifying while reading the traditional and superstitious poem Monday's Child. After lots of discussion we compared it to Colin McNaughton's Monday's Child is Red and Spotty!
Our new class read, as voted for by the class is Kieran Larwood's 'The Legend of Podkin One-Ear'.
We are delighted that he replied to our Little Plumstead Reads and sent Zebras a personal message.
