Home Learning in Zebras

WELCOME ZEBRAS!

Check this page regularly for daily activities and weekly activities to try at home. Remember to have fun with your learning and to take time out to play in the garden, grow things, bake, exercise and to be creative.

Every day I will suggest an English and a Maths activity. This will build on work we have previously covered and will help you to have another go and embed your learning.

I will put on a suggestion for each of the other subjects we do each week.

Please don't worry if you don't do it or you can't get it done. The most important thing you can do is talk to someone if you are worried and to keep your body and mind healthy.

A note for Mum and Dad.

Please remember you are and have always been your child's primary educator. If you decide that your child isn't going to engage with anything sent home and is going to spend their time playing in the garden, building lego, baking, crafting etc then that is entirely your choice. I will provide some ideas should you wish to use them. This is an extremely unusual situation and we are all learning day to (including me)!

Continuing to love and care for our children, talking to them about what is happening and helping them work through their worries is the most important thing we can do.

Mrs Malcolm
Ongoing activities

Read every day for at least 15 minutes.

Listen to a story.

Read someone else in the family a story.

Practise Times Tables. Can you master them all? Design games to help you remember them. Make your own poster for the wall!

Use your Sumdog and Times Tables Rockstars Log-ins and practise for 15 minutes each day.

Start your own Positivity Jar and add to it. Decorate a pot, jar or box beautifully. Each day write on a little slip of paper something great that happened that day, date it and pop it into the jar.  At the end of all of this you can open them up and read the journey you have been on. Maybe everyone in your family could write  a little note every day.

Learn a dance.
Learn a song which has dance moves.

Record answers in your Home Learning Book and then mark them. What do you need to have another go at?

RE     Being Grateful

One way to help explore our own intentions behind giving is to write about them. Perhaps you could discuss: What is the best gift you’ve ever received? What is the best gift you’ve ever given?

Write a letter of thanks to anyone. Examples: a note to a parent or any caretaker thanking them for all they do, a note to a friend telling them how happy you are that they you are friends, a thoughtful note to a parent or  sibling about something they did that was cool or helpful. (Maybe you could post it at a later date)

When we are in a giving mode, we feel a sense of purpose and satisfaction.

French- This is a really fun way to learn languages. It is free. Choose French and do 15 minutes each day. You’ll be amazed how quickly you learn it.

Story Starter See picture below

He held them with his mind. He controlled them.

The chairs swirled around him, dancing as if held by invisible strings. He practised on chairs, however his powers allowed him to manipulate things far more complex than that…

Can you write a story about the man who can perform magic?

Sentence challenge!

Which ending would make this word an adverb?

smart

smarter smartie smartest smartly smartier

Can you use adverbs in your writing today?

Perhaps you could use adverbs to show the possibility of something happening e.g. perhaps, surely, possibly, maybe.

Perhaps she would find other people soon.

Question time! DISCUSS

Why do you think the man practices his magic using chairs?

What other magic do you think the man possesses?

Why do you think he is in a field?

What do you think his home is like?

If you could perform magic, what power/ability would you most like to have?

 Maths-

Practical Maths today. Cook or bake something where you are measuring out all the ingredients and timing how long to cook it for. Enjoy eating it and write down all the adjectives you can to describe the taste.

Remember to have a warm up stretch and cool down stretch.
