Homework

Reading

Children are expected to read at home daily for at least 15 minutes. They can read to themselves or an adult and should record their reading in their pupil planners. Recording in a planner is good practice for High School. It would be great if you could talk to your child about what they are reading, ask questions about the characters and what is happening. Share what you are reading with them too!

TTRS

Children should access TTRS for 15 minutes, 5 days per week. This has been proven to make an impact on times tables knowledge and overall fluency in all areas of Mathematics.

Spellings

We are currently assessing the children’s spelling with the aim of the children developing a personalised lists of tricky words they are working on, taken from the statutory word lists and their work in class. This will be developed into a “Focus 5” which children will record in their spelling journals at school and their pupil planners. Once children have proved they have learned to spell these words (evidenced use in their written work) they will replace them with new words from their list.

We will also cover spelling rules in class and these words will be sent home in their pupil planners – some children may like to learn and practice these at home, other children may just practice reading the words and focus more on learning their “Focus 5” words.
