Patron of Reading

We are delighted to have Jennifer Killick working with us this year as our Patron of Reading. The Patron of Reading scheme was set up to develop links between authors and schools in order to encourage and develop Reading for Pleasure.
Jennifer has published two book so far and is currently writing her third book in the Alex Sparrow series. For more information about Jennifer's work,  see her website
During her first visit, Jennifer spoke to the whole school about her journey to becoming an author. Jennifer then held workshops with all of the classes based around creating characters. She met with parents and signed copies of Alex Sparrow and the Really Big Stink at the end of the day.
Jennifer has two more visits to the school planned for this school year - details of her next visit will follow soon.
Jennifer visited the school for the second time on 31st October. She worked with each class individually, looking at a range of different books that would be suitable for each age group.
Jennifer also generously brought signed copies of her latest book, Alex Sparrow and the Furry Fury, as well as other books that she had obtained from fellow authors.
Some pupils bought books and Jennifer signed these for them.

Many thanks to Jennifer for the lovely Christmas card that she sent to the school. Unsurprisingly, the card featured a hedgehog who looked rather like Mr Prickles!
Jennifer visited the school again just before World Book Day in March. She worked with all classes during the day, using two different picture books: We Found A Hat by Jon Klassen; and Footpath Flowers by  Jon Arno Lawson and Sydney Smith.
The children enjoyed sharing the books and completing activities related to them.
Jennifer also kindly brought us another signed book for the library.
Thank you for another lovely day Jennifer.
